Poneto, Indiana
For generations, the Chester Township Fire Department has stood ready — responding to emergencies, preventing disasters before they start, and building a community where families can sleep soundly.
About Us
We are not a government agency that happens to live nearby. We are your neighbors — the people who show up when you need us most, and the ones who make sure you never need us at all.
The Chester Township Fire Department has served Poneto and the surrounding rural communities for decades. Our team of dedicated volunteer and career firefighters responds to every call with the same commitment: protect life, protect property, and protect the way of life that makes this community worth safeguarding.
From structure fires and vehicle accidents to medical emergencies and natural disasters, we are trained, equipped, and ready — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
What We Do
From rapid emergency response to proactive safety education, we cover the full spectrum of fire and rescue services for Chester Township.
Structure fires, vehicle fires, wildland fires, and hazardous material incidents — our crews respond with speed, skill, and the right equipment for every scenario.
Vehicle extrication, water rescue, technical rescue, and search operations. Trained personnel and specialized gear ready for any rescue situation.
Inspections, code enforcement, and safety consultations for homes and businesses. We help you identify risks before they become disasters.
Fire safety workshops, school visits, CPR training, and public demonstrations. Knowledge is the best defense — we share it freely.
Smoke detector installation, home escape plan assistance, and fire hazard assessments for homeowners and landlords throughout Chester Township.
Emergency medical care while awaiting ambulance transport. Our firefighters are trained in first aid and emergency medical response.
